Monday, August 17th, 2009 ::: New Signs

Toronto’s latest illegal billboard is this Strategic Media sign located at 700 College Street:

The signs was displayed for the first time over the weekend but we foreshadowed the building of this sign in “The 113 Locations Leased by Strategic Media” where we showed you all of the locations the Strategic Media has leased as part of their aggressive legal strategy to blanket the city with illegal signs while dragging the City through the courts. Their scheme is generally not working but a few locations are being built out.

This sign would qualify for a permit for a third party vinyl sign but for the proximity of the location to a legal non-conforming CBS Outdoor billboard on the roof of 719 College Street (which is also the home of this illegal Titan sign). The new Strategic sign also obstructs a window.

This wall location is a legal, conforming location for a painted third party mural sign. On June 8, 2009, Daniel Pitoscia of Strategic Media in fact obtained this permit to paint a third party mural on this wall:
