At 255 Consumers Road, Along the 401, Astral Media Obtains a First-Party Variance Then Builds an Illegal Billboard
This is Astral Media’s illegal billboard at 255 Consumers Road:
Let’s take a look how it got built.
In July 2002, City Council granted this variance [PDF] to build two first-party ground signs on this property:
The first-party signs were 350 square feet in area, which explains why Astral Media’s 10′x20′ sign face is too small for the structure. The second ground sign on this property is not there.

Interesting to note that on the birds-eye view on maps.live.com, the original 350 sq. ft. sign faces are in place (but are blank). This must be reasonably recent as the photo was taken after the ex-Ramada painted the exterior of their building.
