Clear Channel Gets Variance for 595 Bay Street, But Will it Get A Permit?
At Toronto and East York Community Council yesterday, Clear Channel obtained a variance for the sign on the left, the vinyl wrap on the Atrium:

We’re of the opinion that Clear Channel will not be able to obtain a building permit to legalize their sign, on the basis that the Ontario Building Code prohibits vinyl fascia signs larger than 1000 square feet, and the Ontario Fire Code requires the windows of a building to be clear of obstructions for the safety of both firefighters and members of the public.
Furthermore, the see-through vinyl mesh material that Clear Channel is proposing to use was never approved for outdoor use in Ontario.
We will be therefore asking the Buildings Department to reject Clear Channel’s variance.

You can’t get any stricter than Ontario building code.
They’re probably gonna be less strict in special cases like this since this is a major attraction.
