30 Gansevoort Street: Another Illegal Sign Removed in Greenwich Village

30 Gansevoort Street is another success story for the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation’s fight against illegal billboards in their part of New York City. We first wrote about Greenwich Village billboards when we discussed the illegal Titan sign on the “Little Flatiron Building” in At 675 Hudson, an Illegal Titan Outdoor Face is Removed from a Greenwich Village Roof.
Above is what 30 Gansevoort Street used to look like. Here is the view from Google Street View:

The NYC Department of Buildings’ computer shows a series of Environmental Control Board violations issued against illegal signs at this address including this one issued on April 30, 2007:

The violation states that it is still “pending.” Nevertheless, when we visited 30 Gansevoort Street on Tuesday the signs were gone, there was no structure remaining, and the wall was painted:

These illegal signs were just across the street from the Van Wagner’s infamous Hotel Gansevoort signs, which obtained improper permits, although NYC Buildings has rejected the complaints about those signs.
