Billboard For Rent: 335 King Street West
In this Audit of By-Law Enforcement, we look at two MLS investigations of Astral Media’s illegal fascia sign at 335 King Street West.

In December 30, 2005, Officer Anthony Bartolo took this photograph of the sign.
The file was transferred to Officer Danny Baird who, on February 23, 2006 decided that the sign was legal. Here are his notes:
In June 2006, Officer Baird was conducting a “pro-active” investigation of illegal signs in the downtown area. “Pro-active” investigations are investigations initiated by the officer, rather than by a member of the public. Danny once again came across Astral’s sign at 335 King Street West, the same sign he determined was legal in February 2006. In a make work project for Danny Baird and Municipal Licensing and Standards, on June 23, 2006, Danny took this photograph of the sign:

Danny once again wrote in his notes that the “fascia sign” is legal:
This time he noted the permit number: 99-015702. This is permit 99-015702:

The permit, issued to Chris Morren, is for a mural sign, not a fascia sign. We complained about this sign last year. A few days ago it was removed. This is what it looks like:
Cute.

I think that Danny Baird needs a running column calculating the number of errors he makes. It could become a “dubious distinction” among MLS staff although I think he may have an insurmountable lead….
The name plate is gone too ….
