Before and After: Three Down at Queen and Soho
The torch was deadly but it was slow. The molecules of steel released their bonds with one another most painfully, reluctantly, loath to part. The red wound widened slowly, slowly, even though, as expected, the post was hollow.
The torch was slow but it was deadly. Doc and the girl worked steadily, one relieving the other from time to time. Patience, patience. The heavy-gauge alloy yielded to the flame. Progress became discernable.. Obvious. Conclusive.
Doc shut off the torch, removed the goggles, wiped his sweating brow. The welcome darkness closed around them.
“She’ll go now,†he said.

We have had three illegal fascia signs taken down at Queen and Soho.
This is what 312 Queen Street West looked like in November 2006:

This is what that wall looked like last night, June 24, 2007:

The Carlsberg sign was being operated by Megaposter.ca. Notice that the illegal structure is still there. There is no permit for this wall, although there was once a Murad mural permit, 96-393593, issued to 312 Queen West that was revoked for non-construction.
The Stella sign is apparently under a direct contract between Stella and the Ultra Supper Club.
We expect re-erections for both of these signs.
Just north of that parking lot, was this illegal sign operated by Strategic Media on the southerly elevation of the house at 14 Soho:

And, of course, how could we forget the Black Bull, at the northeast corner of Queen and Soho. We had the sign removed in February and the sign has stayed down, as Titan Outdoor has apparently cancelled the customer contract:

That was February 10, 2007 and it’s still down!
According to an article in today’s Wall Street Journal, Beijing is cleaning up its billboard mess.
