Street Study: Vicinity of City Hall - Part Two (of Three)
Today, we continue to take a look at illegal signs within the vicinity of City Hall. First, read Vicinity of City Hall - Part One if you haven’t already.
443 University Ave, at Dundas - Illegal Titan Fascia

Titan Outdoor is operating this illegal 65 square metre vinyl fascia sign on the easterly elevation of 443 University, under a painted mural permit 06-131347. This sign is subject to a removal order. Note that the sign is advertising the City’s own Onezone. In other words, the City’s advertising agency has purchased space for the City on a sign that the City ordered down. Yet another example of how advertising agencies in this town are making their clients look like idiots. What next, an ad for the renovation forums?
60M separation requirements cannot be met for this sign due to a permitted 3rd party Astral pedestal sign in the parkland at University/Dundas. When the pedestal sign is removed at the end of Astral’s contract with the City, Titan will be able to obtain a permit for a 25 square metre vinyl sign at this location if the abutter agrees to be encroached.
A Onezone sign is also being displayed at 125 George Street, a sign for which City Council rejected the variances and requested be removed “by the end of 2004.”
121 Dundas Street West - Illegal Titan Fascia

At 112 Dundas Street West, Titan Outdoor was operating this illegal fascia sign under this mural permit issued to Murad in 1997. We have had this sign removed:

Titan took a pair of scissors to the sign and is maintaining the illegal structure. And check this out: a careful look at the photos reveals that Titan added its nameplate after the sign was ordered removed. A re-erection is definitely in the works and we have a volunteer watching this wall from the streetcar every weekday.
Re-erections: Over the past two days, Titan re-erected the sign on the easterly elevation of 341 Bloor Street West after failing to remove the structure of the sign. The westerly elevation is still vacant and the structure appears gone. Titan also re-erected at 481 Church Street last week and CBS re-erected at 650 Church. Yesterday, Megaposter re-erected on the northerly elevation of 106 John Street.
